University of Maastricht : wireless network / LUG?

Filed under: Uncategorized — ubuntudemon @ 9:14 am

I’m working at a guide to connect to the wireless network of the University of Maastricht : WirelessNetworkOfUniversityOfMaastricht

I’m *thinking* about starting an informal LUG (Linux User Group) for the University of Maastricht if there is some interest in this. What we could do with this LUG :

  • help spread the use of FOSS and specifically (Ubuntu) Linux on the University of Maastricht by installing it on your laptops
  • have informal (monthly?) meetings where we help eachother and (potential) new (Ubuntu) Linux users

Necessary practical stuff :

  • create a website / wiki page with contact information, agenda and such
  • create an irc-channel, mailinglist or forum
  • have the sysadmins (icts) recognize our efforts and link to us

I’m interested in getting into contact with fellow Linux users at the University of Maastricht. If you are a student at the University of Maastricht please contact me.

  1. Damn, nice initiative!

I wish we could have something equal here at the ‘Uhasselt’ (working closely together with Unimaas 😉 ).

  2. just to clarify :

I succeed in connecting to this wireless network. I started with the wpa_supplicant.conf seveas gave me and adapted it with help of the documentation of wpasupplicant and debugging output of the negotation with the Acces Point.

  7. Hi there,
My “mother-in-law” has just migrated over to Ubuntu last Christmas. The problem is that she has shutdown once the computer not properly and the system was crashed. I managed to get her back on rail yesterday evening. But now she has another problem, the display is all corrupted and the computer not responding at all (even to ctrl+alt+del).
So my only hope (as I’m leaving 3h30 min from her) is to find someone in a nearby LUG or LoCo to help her. She is living in Brunssum, some 20-30 min. from Maastricht (NL). So I thought that perhaps you could help me, UbuntuDemon, to find out a LUG or LoCo team nearby that could help her.
    Kind regards,

  10. Hi,
I’ve just started at UM, and am also keen to join a group that could assist with Linux (Ubuntu) issues – specificaly connecting to Maasnet, which has turned out to be more problematic than i inititially thought.

Did this group ever take off?

  11. to Smeashy :

There’s a document about how to connect :

I have already helped a few people to connect to the MAASnet. Please try the guide. If you have problems I can help you and you can give me feedback on the guide (or improve it yourself). Send me an e-mail if you need help.

I will probably do an introduction talk about Ubuntu. Send me an e-mail if you are interested.
