Gnome 2.16 Preview

With the next major release of the GNOME desktop scheduled for release next month, each passing day sees more of the code frozen. This is the first iteration since version 2.14 was released in April, which saw extensive improvements in performance. Here is our first look at some of the features in Gnome 2.16.

Ubuntu Edgy Eft will use Gnome 2.16 and will be released in october. Ubuntu will use a different theme than default Gnome 2.16.

  2. No that won’t happen. Backports are only for desktop applications (which need no libraries backports).

  3. how can one then update to gnome 2.16 on their dapper machine? if don’t wish to use egdy eft.

  4. lisa : I advice not to try to run gnome 2.16 on Dapper. Unless you are a “1337 hacker” and you want to compile gnome 2.16 yourself. Even then you can expect some problems🙂.

    If you run a business then you might want to stay with Dapper because it has Long Time Support.

    If you are a regular home user you should probably upgrade to Edgy.
