Updating and installing software in Ubuntu (Linux.com training videos

The first video in this pair shows you how to update all the software in your Ubuntu GNU/Linux installation in a single, big gulp. The second video shows you how easy it is to install and remove software with the Synaptic Package Manager.

The first video explaining how to update all your software is suitable for new users. But I don’t like the second video very much because I think it’s better to promote gnome-app-install (which is the “Add/Remove” button in your menu) instead of synaptic because gnome-app-install is easier.

  1. or sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade but I guess that’s harder to remember.
